The Savannah TheaterThe Savannah Theater Average User Rating: (0 votes, add your vote or comments) Savannah is proud of its historical theatre, the Savannah Theatre which opened in 1818, designed by the same architect reknown for his work on the Telfair Mansion. For nearly two centuries the Savannah Theatre has been a cornerstone for entertainment in Savannah having many illustrious performers starting there - Henry Irving, Tyrone Power, Oscar Wilde, Sarah Bernhardt, Lillian Russell, W.C. Fields, and Edwin Booth - his notorious brother, John Wilkes may also have been a player. The theatre has changed many hands over time and was even a movie house for a while. After damage to it in a fire its image was updated to reflect the 1940s Art Deco that had been the rage at the time. Today it is proudly operated by the Little Theater of Savannah.
