Second African Baptist ChurchSecond African Baptist Church Average User Rating: (0 votes, add your vote or comments) The Second Aftrican Baptist Church in Savannah has a history dating back to 1802 when the lower part of the church was built. After the Civil War, Secretary Stanton and General Sherman met here with twenty black leaders including Reverend Garrison Frazier, pastor of the church. Repeatedly during these meetings, the newly freed slaves desire for land was expressed. From this church, General Sherman issued Field Order #15, the famous order pledging that each freedman would receive forty acres and a mule - the Emancipation Proclamation.
