Home to alligators, various other reptiles, birds and fish, the Wildlife Refuge covers more than 26,000 acres of freshwater marshes, tidal water and swamp. You can get a good look at the refuge by riding along the 4-mile-long Laurel Hill Wildlife Drive, which runs off South Carolina Highway 170 a couple miles from the west Chatham County town of Port Wentworth.
