More than 800 troops from both sides were wounded or killed and buried in hastily-dug graves. In September 2004 The Coastal Heritage Society began a private fundraising campaign to create the Spring Hill Redoubt, a memorial to the more than 800 troops killed or wounded here on October 9, 1779.
